Real money in a fake land

The fake world on the website secondlife.com also takes in real money.  It is free to sign up and have a small account, but the more you want to play, the more it will cost you.  Just like in the real world, you have to pay rent.  It’s not as expensive in this world though.  On secondlife.com you pay monthly fees in exchange for Linden money.  I thought this was a good example of a Web 2.0 website that the creator is profiting off of.  This shows that you can make a lot of money off of on-line networking sites.

AI

There is a show on Fox right now called American Idol.  I am sure most people have seen it, or at least heard of it.  It has the concept as the Road Rules show on MTV that I have been blogging about all semester.  This show, just like Road Rules, is also live.  Every week people vote via the Internet.  Viewer’s play a dramatic role in writing the script.  Without us, there would be no show.

Virtual World

I don’t know if anyone has heard of secondlife.com, but it is a really interesting website.  It is a website dedicated to a virtual life.  You can create a person how ever you want them to be.  You can buy land, and sell it too.  Currently there are over 5 million members.  That’s a pretty big world.  I think this is a good example of Web 2.0 because you create and change things.  The things that you create online effect other people.

It’s really cool, you should check it out!

Heroe’s

I was watching t.v. the other day and saw a commercial for the show Heroe’s.  The commercial was telling viewers to go to the shows website and post comments.  The commercial wanted people to post their opinions on how the show will end.  It is almost as the television show writers do not really know how they are going to end the show.  It seems that they are wanting the viewers to help them with writing the show.  It makes sense, because if the viewers do not like the direction the show is going, then they will not watch anymore.  It seems that viewers are having more control over the content of the shows they are watching.

Watching yourself

On all the Road Rules seasons before this one, the cast didn’t get to see the episodes until they were aired on MTV.  Because of this, they could talk bad about each other and no one would know it until months later.  Since this season is pretty much “live”, they get to watch their selves on TV weekly.  This has caused problems on the RV, because the person that is bad mouthing others gets caught immediately.  Its amazing how this seasons show can change day to day.

Spoiled Brat

One of the kids from The Real Housewives of the OC was an extremely spoiled brat.  This kid’s mother is the lady I mentioned in my last blog.  Also, on the reunion at the end of this season, she admitted that she needs to change how she acts.  After viewing herself on TV, she realized she did not come across as a nice person.  She also got a lot of bad responses to her blogs.  It’s kinda funny how comments on a blog can change how a person acts.  This situation turned out to be a good thing.

Good parenting tips

There’s a new show on Bravo that just finished its 2nd season called The Real Housewives of the OC.  It’s a reality TV show that follows 5 women and there families.  One of the housewives, Lori, is not that good of a mother.  On the reunion show at the end of this season, she admitted this.  What she did say was that she has become a better mother since this season ended because of all the comments people have left her on her blogs.  She said she was greatful for all the tips that other mothers from around the country had left her.  This just shows how important blogs have become in our new culture.

Dan’s upset

During week five of the show Dan became very upset.  Some viewers of the show had left some very negative comments about him on his blog.  Because of this Dan acted very distant the whole week and seemed sincerely upset.  This shows again how interactive the viewers can be.  Because of these comments, Dan did not do as well on that weeks mission.  Its amazing how some negative comments effected an entire episode of a TV show.  This example, again shows how, we, the viewers have a large part in the “script” of the show.

Kina and her make-up

So, i was watching a re-run of a Road Rules Viewers Challenge episode and noticed something funny.  One of the guys on the RV was reading out loud all the comments that viewers have left on their blogs.  One comment inpaticular made me laugh.  It was the one about Kina and her make-up.  The comment suggested to Kina that she wears too much make-up.  What even made it funnier was that she was putting her make-up on at the exact time Shane was reading it to her.  She laughed and made a comment.  It was weird because I had just read that exact same blog the day earlier.  This example shows how interactive, we, as viewers have on this show.  Something someone commented on her blog got talked about the very next day on the show.  Us viewers are actually creating the script for the show.  It’s amazing.

Live

The reason this season’s Road Rules is so spectacular is because it is on “live” time.  All the seasons before were taped months in advance.  This version of a semi-live Road Rules is possible because of the extremely large online following this show has.  The show is not exactly live, but it is updated weekly.  The cast members change depending on the viewers votes.  Because of the MTV’s website, voters can view all the candidates profiles before making their decision.
